Strangle the monolith, fix the queries

Legacy Modernisation & Database Optimisation

Incremental modernisation of systems that still earn their keep: characterisation tests first, then a strangler-fig migration, schema and index work, query optimisation and a data migration you can roll back.

We do not open with a rewrite. A working system that is hard to change is still a working system, and most of its value is in behaviour nobody wrote down. We pin that behaviour with tests, then move it piece by piece.

What the work involves

  • Characterisation tests that capture current behaviour before anything moves
  • Strangler-fig migration — the old system keeps running while modules move out
  • Schema redesign, indexing strategy and query-plan analysis
  • Data migration with dry runs, reconciliation reports and a rollback plan
  • Upgrade paths for end-of-life runtimes, frameworks and database versions

What you receive

  • Characterisation test suite over the existing behaviour
  • Migration plan with sequenced, independently revertible steps
  • Before-and-after query plans for the workloads we were asked to improve
  • Data migration scripts, dry-run output and rollback procedure

A note on what this page is not

There are no client names, logos, project counts or performance figures anywhere on this site. Not because we have none, but because every one of them would be an advertising claim we would have to be able to evidence to the person who asked. What is here instead is the method, the deliverable and the contract shape — all of which you can hold us to.
